[Video] How I Take Care of My Skin...and such.

I guess I'll push that Chinese New Year video to the next page because I don't like the screenshot of it.
I'm revealing my true side to you all. Brace yourself. It is not pretty.

I can show product images here because I'm scared of my videos getting flagged, so you can get more details after the jump! I'm going to try and post quick because I want to get my exercise in before I go to bed.

I actually wanted to post two videos before the weekend was over but I'll have to wait until next week. I wanted to do the "get to know me" tag video because I saw my dutch sistaaa do it and it seemed fun after watching hers.
Besides the products I showed in the video, I'll probably repeat some but this is probably my ideal holy grail set of products. I've mentioned them before in previous entries but I can understand if it's hard to find because I don't tag my entries. (So sorry!)

Cleanser: A(n Asian) Foaming Cleanser
This one is around 6.40$ on SASA but there are other varies for around 4$. The cheap ones aren't listed online right now. The Homme one I mentioned in the video smells like the store "Hollister", just thought I'd throw that out. I would wash my face and find the smell is really similar. The peach one smells like candy. My eyes just go @_@ when I use it, haha. They're cheap and HUGE too, so totally worth the money. I don't like spending too much on cleanser because even if they claim to have special ingredients in them, you're essentially washing them away. I doubt it would absorb into the skin while you shower because I cleanse my face in the shower.

Toner: An AHA/BHA Toner
This is the cheapest thing I've found that fits what I want. This is the first thing I use right after I get out of the shower, then Benzoyl Peroxide, then moisturizer. That's it. AHA and BHA are chemical exfoliants but it's not super concentrated so it's okay for daily use. Guy skin is SUPPOSEDLY more resilient anyway, so I don't think there should be a problem. It's 7.99$ on drugstore.com, but it can be found at Walmart. I just like drugstore.com because I don't have to pay sales tax in California if I order from there.

Day Moisturizer: Preferably a moisturizer with at least SPF 30 in it along with some beneficial ingredients like Vitamin E or C

This is the cheapest one I've found. Unlike other moisturizers, it comes in a 4oz bottle which is more bang for the buck. I hate seeing moisturizers of the same price with only 1-1.5oz's. I totally feel jipped when I see those. It has SPF 15, Vitamin E, and BHA and it's 11.39$ on drugstore.com. I can't even find this in actual stores so I have to buy it from there. Another one that fits the description but is more expensive would probably be this.
This is from The Body Shop. It's has Vitamin C and SPF 30 but it's 1.69oz and 20$ a tube. It's also always out of stock online. I've also had bad experiences with going to the mall and hoping the store is aligned with online sales but their sales are very, like, sporadic. I'd see the sale online and go "Ok! going to the mall tomorrow and hope it's still going on" and then it's gone. Annoying. *feelings of bitterness towards the store*

There's also the Eucerin one for sensitive skin that has SPF 30 but it gives this gray cast.
It's 7-9$ and is 4oz, but it's basically lotion with sunscreen in it and nothing else.

Serum: Vitamin C Serum
This one is the most liked on drugstore.com. It's 20-25$ for 1oz of product. You'd use it after toner and before moisturizer, typically.

Night moisturizer:
Acne.org's one is the biggest bang for your buck. It moisturizes and has supposedly beneficial ingredients also. Here's the description from the acne.org site.

"Overly dry skin perpetuates the acne cycle. After using acne treatments, benzoyl peroxide in particular, it's important to properly rehydrate the skin. I made this generously sized, intensely hydrating, non-comedogenic lotion to eliminate dry skin and take care of flakiness completely, while powerfully soothing acne prone skin. It goes on clear and absorbs quickly, leaving no residue. It contains jojoba oil, has a super light feel, and is fragrance-free and dye-free."

It also has Licochalcone and what it is is explained here:
"Licochalcone gives this moisturizer its characteristic yellow color. It is also in the AHA+. Licochalcone is a highly distilled and potent extract of a species of licorice root well known for powerfully calming and soothing the skin. It is especially beneficial on acne-prone skin which tends to be sensitive and irritated. Licochalcone is incredibly expensive at $6000 per kilogram (about the weight of three baking potatoes), but you guys loved it so much in the AHA+ that I heard loud and clear that you wanted it included in the moisturizer as well. I agree with the suggestion and agree that its effects are worth the price. [Note: To avoid staining light colored clothing, allow moisturizer to absorb for 30 seconds or so before dressing.]"

I'm not too picky about a night moisturizer though. I'd just pick one I'd like, but the acne.org one is 24.19$ + shipping and CA tax (but buy via amazon if you want to avoid CA sales tax) for 16oz and it'll easily last for at least 6 months.

Acne Treatment: 2.5% Benzoyl Peroxide
It's also called Treatment if you buy it from acne.org. I haven't found any other item that's cheaper per oz than this one. I use to buy the Persa gel 10 from Clean and Clear but it was really expensive. 1oz for 5$ or so compared to 16oz for around 30$. If you watch the video, it doesn't keep my acne away too much but it's more of a preventative measure for me. It keeps your skin breathing and oxygenated so I wouldn't get even more. I never experienced any dryness but someone I know said she's experienced dryness with it. *shrug*

Exfoliators:
If you got money for the Cure Aqua Gel (40$), you can get that but I'm cheap so I'd rather get this. I've tried this already too and I really like it, so I'd recommend this. It's just a gel you pour on your hand and then run it on your face and when you keep rubbing in circular motions, you'll start to see dead skin cells rub off. It's pretty cool. If you get this, I don't think there's a need for the St. Ive's Apricot Scrub unless you switch off between then. I switch off between a scrub and a more gentler exfoliator (currently Etude House Magic Bubble Peeling) like the Missha one. It goes on sale on Missha's website for 12-14$. I never buy full price from Missha.

Sunscreen: You can use BB cream or Neutrogena Sheer Dry Touch
You can skip this if you aren't out much. You can just rely on the moisturizer because SPF 15 has around 1 or 2 hours of sun blocking before you start getting burned if you have sensitive skin , the L'oreal FUTUR-E moisturize blocks both UVA and UVB rays. I forget what's so bad about each. One is suppose to harm your skin and you'll see effects of it overtime (like in years) and the other one is the one that you get sunburns from, in short.

This is basically the essential stuff. The other things I use like makeup, BB cream, and stuff are just additional.
I'm no guru or scientist, by the way. This is just all I've found to be beneficial and learned over reading, time and time again.

Man this took forever. I hope this was helpful to anyone HAHA!

  2. hmm...i'm always looking for a better moisturizer. i want to try the acne.org one. im going to assume it HAS AND MUST work well because that benzoyl peroxide is so drying.

hm..8oz bottle or 16.....not sure if i'd like it so i'm not sure if i want to commit to a 16oz 30$ bottle. LOL. but the frugalness in me..

  3. on second thought, i might not get the moisturizer. i read up some reviews on makeupalley and it seems OK. i believe someone mentioned it was similar to the cetaphil moisturizer. if anything, i might just try cetaphil because it's likely cheaper and more accessible.

    lol pity click :( ...
